How accurate is my gas gauge and fuel computer?
I have a 98 Ford Explorer with a gas gauge that will fluctuate a quarter tank depending on the surface I'm driving on (uphill, downhill) It also has a fuel computer (I don't really know what it's called) that tells me how many miles till empty, how many gallons left, etc. I've heard those aren't alway reliable and I'm afraid to trust my gas gauge also.
I was once parked in my boyfriends driveway (downhill) and couldn't start my car, even though it said 72 miles and 4 gallons left. Is this an abnormal amount of fluctuation for a car? I get nervous whenever I get below a quarter tank. The needle will be just below a quarter tank and next thing I know it's down below the E.
