Bulls-eye on back of old Starrett caliper?
There is a marking on the back of an old (25+ years) Starrett caliper that a friend of mine has. It looks almost like a bullseye, not even a 1/4" in diameter. One circle with a dot in the middle. On the back of the slide there is an impression that has a dot in the center as well. The two appear to line up at zero. I've yet to see it on any modern calipers. Anyone know what this was used for?
Sounds like this could be for measuring the distance between the two points of a caliper or dividers.

As a student pastor, I have to confess that much of my time in the past was devoted to looking for youth ministry resources. Sometimes they can be hard to find. Usually though I just wanted to make sure I found the right materials and the best deal. This is not completely bad. Taking time to find the right materials for your ministry and making sure you get a good deal on them is very wise. The problem comes in though when finding materials becomes our first priority and monopolizes all of our time. Yes, the materials we use will always be a part of your ministry, but there are so many things that are for more important in our lives as student pastors than youth ministry resources.
First of course is our time with God. Everything else flows out of that. If that relationship is not first then nothing else will be right. We will not make clear decisions and we will not be good models for our families and students. We have to continually be mindful to put our relationship with God first.
Next in line we have our families. God created the family unit and it should be a priority. If you are single that is fine. Celebrate your singleness and take advantage of some of the freedom that may give you in your ministry. But if you have a family you must make sure your commitment to them is priority number one.
Another thing that outweighs our youth ministry resources are the relationships that we build with our students. Those relationships will impact and stay with your students far longer than any materials that you use. Be intentional about pulling yourself away from all the task that you have and focus in on relationships.
Yes the materials we use our vitally important to our ministries but they should never be number one. Look for ways to move them down the list. Maybe purchase a subscription to an online site that provides materials to student pastors so you no longer have to make them a priority. But whatever you do, just make sure that all your priorities are ordered in the proper way.
